Starter Locs

Starting your loc journey is exciting, and we’re here to guide you every step of the way. Your hair texture and parting pattern shape how your locs develop, and the size you choose at the start makes all the difference as they thicken over time. At Hairbru, we’re here to support you with expert care and guidance throughout the journey.

Starter loc Methods we use

  • Instant Locs/ crocheting
  • Two Strand I.e Sisterlocks and Microlocs
  • Extension installment locs
  • Comb Coils
  • Organic locs aka Freeform

Faux Locs

A temporary protective hairstyle created with the use of synthetic hair extensions which are loc’d, instead of your real hair, giving it the opportunity to grow. Our faux locs styles include:

  • Traditional faux locs
  • Goddess locs
  • Butterfly locs
  • Butterfly & Goddess Combo (big hair)
  • New/ Baby locs

    • After your 1st install, visit to your loctician once a month for at leats 3 months. This is the time to tighten any loose strands, adjust and reloc your roots.
    • Hydrate: Invest in a spray bottle of water and natural oils to help with the dryness, spray as often as you need, and avoid any hard shampooing.
    • Protect with a bonnet/durag/head wrap while you sleep, or when doing activities that involve wearing helmets or hard hats.
  • Budding locs (6 to 12 months)

    • Retwists can be spaced out to 4-6 weeks depending on the size.
    • Create a regular cleansing ritual, example: shampooing once a month and oiling/spraying regularly.
    • Keep your locs covered to avoid lint or buildup.
    • Once again  patience is a virtue, keep at it.
  • Mature locs (1 year and more)

    • Retwist your locs every 6 to 8 weeks.
    • stay consistent with the grooming ritual
    • After a few years of this, a retwist 2 to 3 times a year will be plenty, finding a balance that works well for yourself is key.
  • Loc Styling methods we use:

    • Ropes
    • Barrels
    • Curls set

This was my second time with Amina and it definitely won’t be my last! I have microlocs so I’m used to spending 4-6 hours for retwists/retightening appointments but Amina gets it done within 2-3 hours! The salon space is also clean and beautiful and the service is great. Amina is really knowledgeable about Locs and offered me advice on maintenance. She is also really gentle making for an overall pleasant experience. I recommend Hairbru and Amina if you’re looking for a regular loctician!
